It’s officially official… I have officially changed my professional name from “Elizabeth Lauren Hoffman” to “Elizabeth Braun”. No one panic. Everything is gonna be okay. It’s still me!
“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” – Tweet That!
So I married this guy… his name’s Laurence… he’s pretty cute and smart… fun to hang out with… we both like tacos… he reads a lot of scripts… surfs… loves Star Trek… he’s totes dreamy (minus the Star Trek stuff of course – no offense). And, you know, we got married.
So after a year and a half of procrastination and headaches, I finally changed my legal name to “Elizabeth Braun”. Why? Because I like the name – it sounds nice. And because I’m a romantic. Yes, you can be a romantic and still be a feminist… gasp! #truth (See below).
Now, in case you’re wondering, I had originally planned on keeping my professional name as “Elizabeth Lauren Hoffman” because I liked the idea of keeping some anonymity… but mostly because I’ve worked my ass off and didn’t want to have to reintroduce myself to the world. But then I realized how exhausting it was to have two names. I mean, try going through security on your way to an audition at the Fox lot with an I.D. that says one thing and a headshot that says something else. So…
I bit the bullet, bought the domain, and changed my name… or at least my IMDb was updated so there’s really no going back. But… it works. Laurence and I are both entertainment industry peeps with big ambitions and it feels nice to have the same team name on our jerseys. Two hopeless workaholics. He’s gonna run a network one day and we’re gonna give Norma Shearer and Irving Thalberg a run for their money – and they had a lot. Should be fun.

Anyway, thanks for bearing with me as my name transitions… with sharpie’d headshot corrections (save the trees!) and with website and social media adjustments. It’s work but it’s coming along and feels nice to simplify things. I’m excited to see what the future has in store for us all. And, as cheesy as it sounds…
Hello, it’s nice to meet you. My name’s Elizabeth Braun. 🙂
“Feminism: (1) Belief in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes. (2) The movement organized around this belief.” (The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition, Copyright 2000 by Houghton Mifflin Company).
“Third wave feminism calls for equal social, political, and economic rights between men and women while not asserting the superiority of either gender. Third wave feminists neither swear off femininity nor exclude masculinity from their personality. The point is to be equal without overwhelmingly accepting or barring socially constructed gender roles.” (Seiffert, Kat. “Feminism: Introduction and Basic History.” Published @ RC: December 2004).
